Ricks Spring, Natural spring in Logan Canyon, Utah, US
Ricks Spring is a natural water source in Logan Canyon within Wasatch-Cache National Forest, where water emerges from a cave system in the surrounding rock. The spring feeds a stream that flows through the canyon and is fed by underground passages and seepage from the surrounding landscape.
The spring was discovered in 1859 by Thomas E. Ricks during his exploration of Cache Valley. This discovery led to the development of early transportation routes through the canyon area.
Local people have drawn water from this source for generations, and the spring became an important stop for travelers passing through the canyon on their journeys.
The location is best reached via the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway, which provides easy vehicle access and passes by several viewing areas. A short walk from the parking area brings you to the spring, which remains accessible throughout most of the year.
Scientific studies have shown that water feeding the spring comes from an extensive underground network in the surrounding limestone. The water originates partly from distant lakes and streams several miles away, traveling through the rock to emerge at this point.
