Upper Green River Rendezvous Site, National Historic Landmark in Sublette County, Wyoming, United States.
This 1,200-acre site along the Green River near Daniel encompasses the location where fur trappers, traders, and suppliers gathered during the Rocky Mountain fur trade era of the early 19th century.
The site hosted at least five Rocky Mountain Rendezvous between 1825 and 1840, serving as organized annual meetings established by William Henry Ashley to facilitate fur trading and supply exchange in the American West.
These gatherings fostered significant cultural exchanges between European-American mountain men, traders, and Indigenous peoples, creating a temporary multicultural trading hub that facilitated commerce, social interaction, and alliance formation in the wilderness.
Located near the confluence of the Green River and Horse Creek, the site remains largely undeveloped with access primarily via ranch roads, and commemorative markers positioned on rises overlooking the historic meeting grounds.
Despite no surviving physical evidence of the original encampments, archaeological excavations continue to uncover trading artifacts and tools that reveal details about daily life during these massive annual wilderness gatherings.
