The East Longs Peak Trail extends through dense forests and alpine meadows, leading hikers to the summit at an elevation of 14,259 feet.
Reverend Elkanah Lamb initiated the trail construction in 1878, followed by Enos Mills' extension in 1910 before the establishment of Rocky Mountain National Park.
The trail maintains its National Register of Historic Places status since 2007, marking its role in the recreational development of Rocky Mountain National Park.
The ascending path requires proper gear, sufficient water, and physical preparation due to high altitudes and variable mountain weather conditions.
The Keyhole Route section presents technical climbing challenges with narrow ledges and steep cliffs that demand mountaineering skills and careful navigation.
