Midland Terminal Railroad Roundhouse, Railroad roundhouse in Colorado Springs, US
The Midland Terminal Railroad Roundhouse is a historic railway maintenance building from the late 1880s in Colorado Springs. The structure features original stone walls, wooden support beams, and large glass windows set into former track door openings.
The Colorado Midland Railroad built this facility between 1887 and 1888 to support train maintenance and operations for regional mining freight. The building served as a working railroad hub for many decades afterward.
The roundhouse shows how an industrial railway space was transformed into a shopping destination over the decades. Visitors can still see the marks of both its working past and its later commercial life in the building.
The roundhouse sits on 21st Street between Manitou Springs and downtown Colorado Springs, conveniently located near US Highway 24. The building is easy to reach and offers clear views of its historical rail infrastructure.
The Van Briggle Pottery company ran an art pottery workshop here for over 50 years, turning the industrial rail shed into a creative production space. Visitors can still notice the remnants of this artistic era mixed with the original railway layout.
