Mile High Stadium, Sports stadium in Denver, United States.
Mile High Stadium was a sports arena in Denver, Colorado, with seating for more than 50,000 spectators across multiple tiers. The facility featured an open-air design with no roof, surrounded by concrete ramps and expansive parking areas.
The arena opened in August 1948 originally for baseball and later became home to the Denver Broncos. It served as a venue for football and occasional baseball until its demolition in 2002.
The name refers to the city's elevation, roughly 5280 feet (1609 meters) above sea level. Visitors often noticed the thinner air, and visiting teams regularly complained about breathing difficulties during games.
The site no longer exists, but the location lies near the current Empower Field, built on the same spot. Those exploring the area can see the general surroundings and adjacent parking lots that remain in use.
During the 1993 baseball season, spectators sat on temporary bleachers in the outfield because the Colorado Rockies played here while their own ballpark was still under construction. The Rockies set several attendance records that season, even though the facility was designed for football.
