Elitch Gardens Theme Park, Theme park in downtown Denver, United States
Elitch Gardens Theme Park combines classic rides and a water park on urban grounds. Several roller coasters thread through the property, while a separate zone offers slides and wave pools.
The facility started in 1890 as a botanical garden in a different neighborhood and later added rides. After more than a century, the entire operation moved to the current downtown site in 1995.
The park takes its name from Mary and John Elitch, who originally established the grounds as a botanical garden. Today families from across the metro area gather here during summer breaks and weekends.
A light rail line stops directly at the entrance, and drivers reach the grounds from the nearby interstate. Visitors should bring swimwear in summer to enjoy both sections.
From the Tower of Doom, riders see the Denver skyline and mountains on the horizon during the freefall. This gondola lifts visitors over 200 feet (60 meters) before plunging down in seconds.
