Dinosaur Ridge

Dinosaur Ridge is a natural landmark and paleontological site near Morrison, Colorado, situated along a prominent rocky ridge. A paved walking route displays fossil tracks and bones from several dinosaur species embedded within the rock layers that visitors can examine while hiking.

The site became known worldwide in 1876 when a Yale paleontologist discovered the first complete fossils of a particular dinosaur species at this location. This early discovery turned the area into an important place for science and attracted more researchers afterward.

The place draws visitors who come to see where ancient reptiles once roamed the land, making it a destination where people connect with deep time. Families and school groups use the trails to explore science and geology together, turning a hillside into a classroom.

The location is easy to explore on foot since a paved path is accessible to visitors of different abilities. A visitor center nearby offers information, exhibits, and guided tours to help make the experience more understandable.

During the 1930s, when a road was built through the area, workers unexpectedly uncovered numerous fossilized footprints that scientists had never seen before. This accidental discovery greatly expanded knowledge about several dinosaur species and how they moved across the land.
