Green Mountain, Mountain summit in Lakewood, United States
Green Mountain is a summit in William Frederick Hayden Park in Lakewood, Colorado, rising to around 6,854 feet (2,089 m) with open views toward Denver and the Rocky Mountain peaks to the west. The mountain sits at the eastern edge of the foothills, forming a natural boundary between the city and the higher ranges beyond.
The mountain was known as Hendricks Peak and Mount Hendricks during the early settlement period of the region in the 19th century. In 1906, it was officially renamed Green Mountain, reflecting a broader shift in how local landmarks were being identified at the time.
Green Mountain sits within a city park and is popular with locals for morning walks and trail running. Visitors who arrive early often find groups using the climb as part of their daily routine.
A loop trail runs across the summit area and connects with other paths in the park, giving hikers several starting points to choose from. The terrain is uneven and some sections are steeper, so checking trail conditions before heading out is a good idea.
The park was once used for military training exercises, and remnants of spent artillery shells have been found on the grounds over the years. Visitors are asked to avoid touching any suspicious objects and to report them if found.
