Fort Collins Armory
Fort Collins Armory is an early 20th century brick building with rounded arches and sturdy, simple forms characteristic of Romanesque design. The interior features a large open hall with high ceilings, windows for natural light, and wide doors that once accommodated equipment and gatherings.
Completed in 1907, it was designed by architect Arthur M. Garbutt and served as the first permanent National Guard facility in Fort Collins. After a new armory opened on College Avenue in 1922, the original building transitioned to serve multiple community purposes over the decades.
The name reflects its original military purpose as a gathering place for soldiers and the community. Today it hosts live music events, showing how a historic building continues to serve as a social meeting point for people in the city.
The building sits near other historic sites and easily fits into a walking tour of Fort Collins history. It regularly hosts live music events, so checking the current event schedule online helps you plan your visit and know when the space is open to the public.
The building featured one of the earliest basement shooting galleries in Colorado, where soldiers and citizens alike could practice marksmanship. This forward-thinking facility helped the community prepare while supporting military readiness in the early 1900s.
