Haywire Winery, Organic winery in Summerland, Okanagan Valley, Canada.
Haywire is a winery on 10 acres of vineyards overlooking Okanagan Lake, growing Pinot Gris, Gamay, and Pinot Noir grapes. The facility uses concrete vessels and steel tanks to produce around 35,000 cases each year from organic fruit.
Christine Coletta and Steve Lornie founded the winery in 2009, converting their former apple orchard into a grape-growing operation. This shift marked the beginning of wine production in an area historically focused on fruit farming.
The name comes from a Canadian term for tangled wire, representing the founders' shift from city living to farming life in the region. This reflects how the winery keeps its connection to rural craftsmanship and hands-on work.
Access to the winery is available seasonally through the Okanagan Crush Pad, so check in advance for visiting hours. The lakeside location is generally accessible by road, though winter driving conditions can be challenging in the region.
The winery works with renowned consultant Alberto Antonini to create wines with no added ingredients. These wines mature in concrete vessels and steel tanks, allowing the fruit to express itself without interference from conventional winemaking additives.
