Terraced Falls, waterfall in Teton County, Wyoming
Terraced Falls is a waterfall in Yellowstone National Park located in the Bechler area in the park's southwest corner. The water drops approximately 40 meters over a series of steps into a canyon flanked by tall, rounded rock columns.
The name was given by a geological survey team in the late 1800s. Although attempts were made to rename it in the 1920s, the original name remained.
You need a sturdy vehicle to reach the trailhead, as Grassy Lake Road has rough sections with potholes and washouts. The roundtrip hike is approximately four miles and is relatively gentle overall. Bring water, wear comfortable shoes, and plan your visit for clear weather.
The waterfall remains relatively unknown because it lies far from the park's main popular routes. This makes it a quiet spot where visitors can enjoy the power of water and nature without crowds.
