Aero Space Museum of Calgary, Aviation museum in Calgary, Canada
The Aero Space Museum of Calgary is an aviation and space museum housed in a former World War II hangar on the grounds of Calgary International Airport in Alberta, Canada. It displays historical aircraft alongside objects related to the history of space exploration.
The museum was founded in 1975 by aviation enthusiasts and former World War II pilots, growing from an earlier private collection. The choice of the airport hangar as its home ties it directly to Calgary's wartime flight training history.
Visitors can see memorial stones honoring pilots from Commonwealth nations who trained in Calgary during World War II. These stones mark the memory of Canadians, British, Australians, and New Zealanders who passed through the flight school here.
The museum sits on the airport grounds and is most easily reached by car, with parking available on site. Allow enough time to see both the indoor exhibits and any aircraft displayed outside, as the collection is spread across more than one area.
The museum runs an active restoration workshop where aircraft like the Hawker Hurricane are brought back to their original condition over several years. Visitors can sometimes watch this work in progress, since the restoration takes place on site.
