The Murray Hotel, Historic railroad hotel in Livingston, United States.
The Murray Hotel is a four-story red brick building with 30 rooms located directly across from the Northern Pacific Railway Livingston Depot. The building houses three dining venues serving different styles of food for guests and visitors.
Built in 1904 as the Elite Hotel, the building took its current name when the Murray family took over in the 1920s. For decades it served as a major stopping point for railroad travelers passing through the region.
The original 1905 Otis elevator and decorative details inside reflect the connection between railroad heritage and Montana ranching traditions of that era. These features tell the story of when the train was central to life in this town.
The hotel sits directly across from the train station, making it easy to locate and walk to from downtown. Visitors can access the restaurants and bars inside without needing a hotel room, and the central location makes exploring the town straightforward.
During the 1960s when railroads declined, the building shifted from being a transportation hub to becoming a destination for film productions. It hosted actors and crews working on movies shot in the Montana area.
