Muscowequan Indian Residential School

The three-story brick building stands as a former residential school, featuring educational facilities, dormitories, and extensive grounds with farming areas.

The institution operated from 1889 to 1997, initially established by Qu'Apelle Oblates as Touchwood Hills Mission before becoming part of the federal residential school system.

The building holds deep meaning for Indigenous communities as it represents the suppression of their languages, traditions, and family connections over multiple generations.

The Muskowekwan First Nation maintains ownership of the property and received funding to protect the windows, though additional resources are needed for complete restoration.

Nineteen unmarked graves were discovered behind the student residence, leading to careful documentation and protection measures for the cemetery area.
