Cenotaph, War memorial in Victoria Park, Regina, Canada.
The Cenotaph in Victoria Park is a granite monument featuring a carved Brooding Soldier figure at its center. Ornamental walls surround the structure, framing the central memorial and creating a distinct ceremonial space.
The monument was unveiled on November 11, 1926, initially honoring soldiers from the region who died in World War I. Later inscriptions were added to commemorate the fallen from subsequent conflicts.
The monument displays cap badges from local military units including the Regina Rifles and South Saskatchewan Regiment. These emblems tell the story of regiments that came from this region and served in different conflicts.
The monument is located in Victoria Park at 1955 Smith Street and is easily accessible on foot. The site is open to visitors year-round and serves as the main gathering point for annual Remembrance Day observances.
The Brooding Soldier figure was created by Frederick Clemesha, a sculptor who served with the 46th Battalion. Clemesha also designed a similar figure for the St. Julien Memorial, connecting this site to other war remembrance locations.
