Revillagigedo Island, Island in Alexander Archipelago, Alaska.

Revillagigedo is a large island in the Alexander Archipelago, stretching roughly 89 kilometers long and 48 kilometers wide. It spans about 2,754 square kilometers and features dense forest and a jagged coastline shaped by glacial activity.

British explorer George Vancouver named the island in 1793 in honor of Juan Vicente de Güemes, the viceroy of New Spain. This naming reflects the era when European seafarers were mapping and exploring Alaska's coastline.

The Tlingit people, particularly the Saanyaa Ḵwáan and Taantʼa Ḵwáan nations, maintain deep ties to this land in southeastern Alaska. Their presence shapes how the place is lived in and remembered by those who call it home.

A road system roughly 40 miles long runs along the western side of the island, while other areas are only accessible by boat or floatplane. The limited road network means visitors should plan ahead and be prepared for remote conditions.

Behm Canal encircles three sides of the island, forming a natural water boundary to the mainland coast. This waterway connects multiple glacier-fed rivers and creates an unusual meeting point where fresh and salt water mix.
