St. Josaphat Cathedral, Byzantine Cathedral in McCauley, Edmonton, Canada
The cathedral features seven domes reaching 100 feet in height, a columned entry portico, and red brick walls adorned with darker brick pilasters.
Construction began in 1939 under the design of Reverend Philip Ruh, and the building achieved cathedral status when Edmonton became the seat of a new exarchate.
The interior displays traditional Byzantine iconography created by Professor Julian Bucmaniuk in the 1950s, using bright colors and realistic artistic approaches.
The cathedral occupies 18 city lots and serves as the main religious center for the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton, offering regular services and celebrations.
Each of the seven domes represents a different sacrament and gift of the Holy Spirit, following Eastern Christian architectural symbolism.
