The American, Bronze statue project in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, US
The statue will be a 217-foot bronze sculpture depicting a Native American warrior with an eagle perched on his shoulder, designed to rise higher than the Statue of Liberty. The structure includes an interior observation level, underground visitor access, and a maintenance facility designed to protect the surrounding landscape.
The concept began in 2001 when artist Shan Gray submitted an original design for the Oklahoma State Capitol dome competition. The project later evolved into a standalone monument with an expanded scope and vision.
The statue honors Native American culture through its imagery of a warrior and eagle, representing values important to indigenous peoples of the region. Visitors encounter these symbols as they move through the site and learn about their meaning.
The site is designed with underground visitor access to accommodate those with mobility needs while preserving the surrounding landscape. The layout allows visitors to move through and around the monument without unnecessary obstacles or crowded pathways.
Upon completion, this will be the largest bronze sculpture ever created, surpassing all previous records for works in this medium. The combination of scale and artistic execution makes it an engineering achievement without precedent.
