Apostolic Vicariate of Inírida, Catholic territorial jurisdiction in Inírida, Colombia.
The Apostolic Vicariate of Inírida is a Catholic territorial jurisdiction in Colombia that covers a large area in the Guainía department with multiple established parishes. The diocese is centered on the Cathedral of Our Lady of Carmen, which serves as the main religious focus for the region.
The vicariate was established on November 30, 1996, when Pope John Paul II divided the former Vicariate of Mitú-Puerto Inírida into two separate administrative entities. In December 1999, its territory expanded with the addition of land from a neighboring apostolic prefecture.
The vicariate serves a population of 46,000 residents, with 13,100 Catholics participating in religious ceremonies at the Catedral Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
The region is remote and served by a small number of priests supported by religious personnel to reach communities across the territory. Visitors should expect limited accessibility and prepare for basic facilities in this isolated area.
The jurisdiction received additional territory from the Apostolic Prefecture of Vichada in December 1999, expanding its influence in the Colombian Amazon region.
