Yapacana National Park

The park extends across 1,200 square kilometers of diverse landscapes, including savannas, tropical rainforests, and table-top mountains in southern Venezuela.

Established in December 1978, the park has faced increasing environmental challenges since the mid-1980s due to the expansion of illegal gold mining operations.

Indigenous communities maintain their traditional practices within the park boundaries, relying on natural resources while contributing to regional cultural preservation.

Access to the park requires coordination with local guides, as its remote location and limited infrastructure necessitate experienced navigation through the wilderness.

The Yapacana Mountain rises distinctly within the park boundaries, creating specific microclimates that support numerous endemic plant and bird species.
