The Calima Lake stretches across 13 kilometers in length and 1.5 kilometers in width, holding 581 million cubic meters of water at 1442 meters elevation.
The Calima reservoir was built between 1961 and 1964 by the PERINI company and opened its waters to the public on May 28, 1966.
The region contains archaeological remains of the Calima civilization, who inhabited the area 8000 years before Christ and created gold and pottery pieces.
The reservoir maintains a water temperature of 22.8 degrees Celsius and provides optimal conditions for water activities throughout the year.
The lake experiences wind speeds reaching 45 knots, making it the third fastest wind location worldwide and the fastest in the Americas.
