Yumurí valley, Natural valley in Matanzas Province, Cuba
Yumurí Valley is a natural depression in Matanzas Province with a flat basin surrounded by sloping hillsides. Two rivers run through the terrain, with royal palms dotting the landscape throughout the valley.
The valley preserves geological traces reaching back millions of years, revealing ancient conditions different from today. These layers show how the land and its life changed dramatically over deep time.
The name Yumurí comes from indigenous words meaning white river, reflecting the valley's deep connection to its natural water sources. Locals and visitors alike recognize the landscape through these linguistic roots that survive in everyday speech.
The best vantage point is the Bacunayagua Bridge, which offers elevated views across the entire landscape. From this spot, the rivers and palm groves become clearly visible across the terrain.
The valley is home to Melocactus matanzanus, a cactus species found nowhere else in Cuba. This rare plant marks the ecological distinctiveness of this specific location.

Cuba combines colonial architecture, tropical landscapes and centuries-old fortifications. From the tobacco fields of Viñales Valley to the colonial towns of Trinidad and Havana, and the waterfalls of Soroa, the island displays its history and natural diversity. The Spanish colonial period left behind fortresses, palaces and cobblestone streets in historic centers. National parks protect karst formations, rainforests and coastal areas. Along the coast lie beaches with turquoise waters and coral reefs. The route passes through different regions of the island, from the mountains of Sierra Maestra to the cayos off the northern coast. Each location shows a different aspect of Cuban culture and nature, whether in the streets of Santiago de Cuba or in the caves of Bellamar.
