Kannaviou Reservoir, Water reservoir in Asproyia, Cyprus
The Kannaviou Reservoir is a large storage lake in the Paphos district designed to hold water for irrigation and drinking supply. The structure extends roughly 600 meters in length and rises approximately 70 meters high to contain substantial volumes of water.
Construction of this storage dam began in 2000 and was completed within approximately five years. Water storage began just before completion and has since helped secure water supply across the region.
The reservoir plays a vital role for farmers across the region, supporting irrigation of fields and gardens that have been cultivated for generations. Nearby communities depend on this water source to maintain their agricultural way of life and daily work.
The site is better accessed on foot, as roads in the area are narrow with limited parking. It is advisable to visit early in the day when it is cooler, especially during the hotter months.
This structure was the first of its kind on the island, using a construction method with an upstream plate that had not been attempted locally before. Engineers selected this technical approach to match the local conditions.
