Golden Beach

Golden Beach is a sandy shore on the Karpaz Peninsula along the southern coast of Cyprus, bordered by rocky outcrops and cliff faces. The expanse stretches for several kilometers with minimal development visible along the water's edge.

The shore remained under military control and isolation for decades until environmental protection efforts opened access to visitors in the 1990s. Today it functions as a protected natural area managed for conservation purposes.

The beach area maintains strong connections to both Greek and Turkish communities, reflecting the diverse heritage of northern Cyprus through local cuisine and traditions.

Reaching this location requires driving along a basic coastal road from the nearby village, with informal parking available in sandy areas. Come prepared with water and sun protection since facilities are sparse along the shore.

Each July green sea turtles return to nest on this shoreline, with hatchlings making their journey to the sea at dusk. This natural breeding ground draws watchers from around the world.
