Kalsoy, Island in northern Faroe Islands.
Kalsoy is an island in the northern Faroe Islands with thirteen mountain peaks and diverse terrain shaped by volcanic geology. The west side rises steeply with dark basalt cliffs, while the east slopes down gently with green grassland.
The island was settled over time, with multiple villages developing across its terrain and later connected through tunnels. A settlement called Blankaskáli disappeared in the early 1800s when landslides made living there impossible and residents moved elsewhere.
The Kópakonan statue in Mikladalur recalls the tale of a seal woman who sought justice after being trapped and forced to marry a local man. This sculpture shows how old stories remain woven into the daily landscape and collective memory of the island.
Four tunnels connect the main villages and allow safe travel even during rough weather. You can reach the island by ferry from Klaksvík, which carries vehicles and operates according to local sea and weather conditions.
The northern cliffs became a film set for a major spy action film and have attracted movie fans ever since. The dramatic coastal setting proved ideal for capturing scenes that required towering rock formations and remote location.
