Aceh Singkil, Administrative regency in Aceh, Indonesia
Aceh Singkil is an administrative regency spanning mainland Sumatra and an offshore island group, with its administrative center in the coastal town of Singkil. The regency comprises eleven districts on land and includes ninety-nine islands within the surrounding archipelago.
The region gained independence as a separate administrative unit in 1999 when it split from South Aceh Regency. Shortly after, in 2007, the town of Subulussalam was separated and elevated to its own independent status.
The people of Aceh Singkil follow the regional motto 'Sekata Sepekat', which emphasizes unity and collective harmony in community life. This principle shapes how neighbors interact and make decisions together.
Visitors can use the coastal town of Singkil as a starting point to explore different parts of the region. The island group is particularly popular for water-based travel and typically requires boat access from the mainland.
The offshore islands are known for quality diving locations and marine conservation projects, particularly on Tuwanku Island where sea turtles are observed and protected. These islands draw visitors interested in marine life and coral ecosystems.
