Museum Pusaka Nias, Cultural heritage museum in Iraonogeba, Indonesia.
Museum Pusaka Nias occupies a spacious site in Iraonogeba with four pavilions displaying around 6,500 artifacts that tell the story of Nias Island's past and traditions. The collection spans weapons, household items, ceremonial objects, and stone structures that illustrate different aspects of the region's heritage.
The collection began developing in 1972 when Johannes M. Hammerle started gathering artifacts, and the museum was formally opened on November 10, 1995. This founding moment represented a significant effort to preserve Nias Island's cultural heritage for future generations.
The exhibits display weapons, textiles, and ceremonial objects that show how the Nias people lived and what they valued in their communities. Walking through the pavilions, you notice how these items were woven into daily rituals and social practices.
The site operates on weekdays and provides guided tours and educational programs for visitors interested in learning more. Parking spaces and restrooms are available on the grounds to accommodate large numbers of guests.
Visitors can stay overnight in a traditional Omo Hada house located on the grounds, which showcases the original architectural style of the island. This allows guests to experience how people on Nias traditionally lived and organized their homes.
