Snaefell Mountain Course, Motorsport racing track in Douglas, Isle of Man.
The Snaefell Mountain Course is a motorsport racing track on the Isle of Man that stretches for roughly 60 kilometers and uses public roads through villages, open countryside, and mountain passes. The route features over two hundred corners and runs through varied terrain with marked elevation changes between the start and highest point.
The first race took place here in 1907 when the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy was established to create a venue for motorcycle competitions outside mainland British restrictions. Since then, the course has been used annually for different race events, making it one of the oldest continuously used motorsport circuits in the world.
The route follows ordinary town streets and country roads that close only during race events, so residents drive the same stretches as competitors for most of the year. Many corners and sections carry names that honor former riders or local features, helping visitors navigate the long loop.
Outside race weeks, the course remains open to regular traffic, so visitors can drive or walk along sections at any time. During race events, all roads close and access is limited to designated spectator areas along the route.
In 2023, a rider set a lap record averaging roughly 220 kilometers per hour, making this one of the fastest road racing circuits worldwide. The combination of long straights and tight corners demands both top speed and precise control from competitors in all weather conditions.
