Souq Sharq, Shopping complex in Sharq district, Kuwait
Souq Sharq is a two-story shopping complex on the waterfront in Sharq, Kuwait City, with around 70 shops and 20 restaurants. It runs along Gulf Street, and most areas inside offer an open view of the sea.
The complex was built in the late 1990s as part of a broader waterfront development project in Kuwait City. It appeared at a time when the city was beginning to shift its commercial activity toward new districts along the coast.
Souq Sharq sells traditional clothing, fragrances, and crafted goods that reflect local tastes. Visitors can walk through spaces where trade and family life have long gone hand in hand.
The complex sits directly on the waterfront and is easy to reach on foot, by car, or by public transport, with parking nearby. Mornings and early afternoons tend to be quieter, making it easier to walk around and browse at a relaxed pace.
The complex contains three cinema halls, which is an unusual feature for a marketplace in Kuwait. This turns it into a gathering spot where families spend several hours together, going well beyond a simple shopping trip.
