Coburger Hütte, Mountain hut in Tyrol, Austria.
The Coburger Hütte sits at 1917 meters (6289 feet) on the Mieming Range and provides shelter with views of Drachensee lake below. The building rests on this high ridge as a stopping point for mountain walkers.
The hut was built in 1901 by the German Alpine Club following Ferdinand Kilger's proposal from 1890. It was created to provide shelter for climbers at this exposed elevation.
The lake below is tied to local stories about a dragon guarding a submerged village, showing how the mountains hold meaning in regional Alpine traditions. Visitors walking past the water can sense these old tales embedded in the landscape.
The hut is open from June through early October and accommodates about 80 overnight guests. A separate winter room allows access outside the main season when most trails are snow-free.
Three different hiking routes from Ehrwald lead to the hut, including a challenging route with fixed cables and metal rungs. Each path offers different difficulty levels and views on the way up.
