Kronprinzessin Stefanie-Warte, Observation tower on Kahlenberg, Vienna, Austria
The Kronprinzessin Stefanie-Warte is a 22-meter-tall observation structure on Kahlenberg with a viewing platform. From there, visitors can see the Danube River, Vienna's urban landscape, and Leopoldsberg.
The tower was designed in 1887 by architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer. The structure incorporated materials from an older cable car that once connected Leopoldsberg to the valley below.
The structure is named after Crown Princess Stephanie of Belgium, who married into the Austrian royal house. Today, it stands as a landmark that draws people seeking views across the city.
The tower is open from May through October on Saturdays from 12:00 to 18:00 and on Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 18:00. Visit on clear days for the best views across the surrounding area.
The Döblinger Naturfreunde, a local organization, manages this protected monument and undertook major restoration work in 2018. The renovation restored the original architectural features that the structure had retained from its creation.
