Wiener Kammeroper

The Wiener Kammeroper occupies a former hotel ballroom on Fleischmarkt Street and blends classical design elements with modern staging needs in its layout. The space's limited capacity creates an intimate acoustic environment where the stage sits close to the audience.

Hans Gabor founded the Vienna Opera Studio in 1948 as a space to perform opera works with smaller ensembles. The venue was renamed in 1953 and moved to its permanent location on Fleischmarkt in 1961.

The venue shapes Vienna's music scene by staging chamber opera productions that reimagine classical works alongside experimental pieces in an intimate setting. Visitors experience opera here as a more informal art form, closer to the audience than what happens in larger houses.
