Theater Drachengasse

Theater Drachengasse is an independent performance space in central Vienna with two separate rooms of different sizes. The main hall holds approximately 80 seats while the smaller BAR&CO venue accommodates around 50 spectators, allowing for varied presentations.

The venue was founded in 1981 as a women-led cultural initiative seeking to create performance space in Vienna. Over time it developed into an established stage within the city's independent theater scene.

The theater stages contemporary productions that prioritize new voices and premiere works while remaining accessible to diverse audiences. It serves as a place where experimental ideas and unconventional perspectives find regular expression.

The theater is located at Fleischmarkt 22 in Vienna's first district and is well served by public transportation. Most performances begin at 20:00 with late shows around 22:30.

The theater hosts a regular competition supporting emerging artists and offering funding opportunities to young independent groups. This initiative helps rising talents develop and showcase innovative theatrical concepts.
