National Museum of History of Azerbaijan

The National Museum of History of Azerbaijan is housed in a Renaissance-style building spanning four floors in central Baku. The structure occupies an entire city block and contains more than 300,000 objects ranging from prehistoric items to modern documents.

The building was constructed between 1895 and 1901 as the residence of oil magnate Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev. It became a museum in 1920 and has preserved the mansion's layout and original spaces since then.

The collections reveal how people lived and worked across different periods through their tools, clothes, and everyday objects. You see how traditions developed and changed over centuries through what survives from those times.

The exhibition halls display artifacts from various time periods, from prehistoric tools to medieval manuscripts and other historical documents. It is advisable to allow sufficient time to explore the extensive collections properly.

The owner's private chambers, including his study and the Oriental Hall, were restored using photographs from the family archives. These spaces reveal how the wealthy household looked during the mansion's original era.
