Baku Khans' Palace, Historical palace in Old City of Baku, Azerbaijan.
Baku Khans' Palace is a complex of several connected stone buildings in the Old City of Baku, Azerbaijan, with decorated courtyards and ceremonial rooms. The site includes traditional residential spaces, ornamental passages, and a 17th-century underground bathhouse beneath the main structures.
The palace was built around 1750 by Mirza Muhammad Khan I and served as the residence of five successive Baku Khans until 1806. It represents the height of Khan rule in the Old City before the seat of power relocated.
The building displays elements of the Shirvan-Absheron architectural school, blending Azerbaijani and Persian design traditions in its decorated courtyards and rooms. You can see how these different artistic influences work together in the structure today.
After extensive reconstruction work completed between 2018 and 2020, visitors can explore all areas of the palace complex, including basement levels and underground spaces. Wear comfortable shoes as you will navigate through multiple levels and narrow passages.
The Khan's Garden, reconstructed in 2020, is the largest landscaped garden park within the Old City walls and provides visitors with a green retreat among historic structures. This green space was carefully recreated based on historical records to reflect how the Khan family used their outdoor areas.
