Beglar Mosque, Religious monument in Old City, Baku, Azerbaijan.
Beglar Mosque is a religious building in Baku's Old City featuring a minaret standing approximately 25 meters tall. The structure blends European, Eastern, and local architectural traditions into a single design.
The structure was built in 1895 by the sons of Muhammad Hashim Al-Bakui and merchant Murtuza Mukhtarov. During the Soviet era it was repurposed for different uses before eventually being restored to its religious function.
The building takes its name from a local family of importance in the city's history. Visitors can observe how the structure has been maintained and used by the community across generations.
The building functions simultaneously as an active place of worship and as a museum displaying religious objects. An adjacent park provides visitors with space to linger and explore the surroundings.
An international restoration expert oversaw comprehensive work between 2014 and 2015 to secure the architecture for the future. These efforts helped preserve the structure in its authentic state.
