Hajji Heybat mosque, Mosque in Old City, Baku, Azerbaijan
The Hajji Heybat Mosque features stone domes, pointed arches, and a square-shaped vestibule with niches in its worshipping room.
The mosque, constructed in 1791 by architect Haji Heybat Amir Ali oglu, underwent several modifications during the Soviet period and subsequent restoration.
The entrance displays crown decorations and epigraphic inscriptions from the Quran, representing traditional Azerbaijani Islamic artistic elements.
Located at 40°22'02"N 49°50'00"E on Kichik Gala street, the mosque remains an active religious center for Muslim worshippers in Baku.
The architect Haji Heybat and his wife are buried inside the worshipping room, creating a personal connection between the builder and the structure.
