Hajji Heybat mosque

Hajji Heybat Mosque is a place of worship in Baku's Old City with stone domes, pointed arches, and a square vestibule featuring niches. The building continues to serve as an active religious center for Muslim worshippers today.

The mosque was built in 1791 by architect Haji Heybat Amir Ali oglu and underwent modifications during the Soviet period. Later restoration work returned it closer to its original condition.

The entrance displays crown ornaments and Quranic inscriptions that reflect traditional Azerbaijani Islamic artistic traditions. These decorative elements shape how the building presents itself to visitors.

This place of worship is located in the Old City and is accessible via Kichik Gala street. As an active religious site, visitors should approach with respect and awareness of prayer times.

The architect Haji Heybat and his wife are buried inside the worshipping room, weaving the builder's life directly into the structure. This arrangement creates an unusual connection between creator and creation that few visitors notice.
