Monument to Mirza Alakbar Sabir

Monument to Mirza Alakbar Sabir depicts the poet in seated position crafted from bronze and mounted on a dark granite base. The sculpture occupies a public park space near Istiglaliyyat Street in the Old City district.

The current monument was erected in 1958 and replaced an earlier version from 1922 that showed the poet standing on a concrete base. Both versions reflect distinct artistic approaches across different periods of the city's development.

The monument honours a poet who challenged his contemporaries through sharp-witted verses addressing social issues of his era. The seated figure embodies the reflective nature of his literary work.

The monument sits in a public park and is easily accessible on foot through the Old City. Its location near recognizable buildings makes it straightforward to visit.

The use of polished Labrador granite for the base blends traditional materials with the modern design of the 1950s. This combination shows how the artist merged historical importance with contemporary techniques.
