Bukhara Caravanserai

Bukhara Caravanserai is a square building with an octagonal inner courtyard surrounded by traditional pointed arches and individual chambers for travelers. The structure now operates as a restaurant accessible through the main entrance.

The building was constructed in the late 15th century and served as lodging for merchants from Central Asia traveling through the Shamakhi Gates. This connection to trade routes shaped its importance in the city's history.

The building displays typical features of Shirvan-Absheron architecture with its stone walls, balconies, and characteristic entrance portal. These details shape the appearance and character of the space that visitors experience as they move through it.

The location now functions as a restaurant serving Azerbaijani dishes and is accessible through the main entrance. Visitors should keep in mind it is an operating restaurant, so exploration works best outside peak dining hours.

Restoration work in 1964 separated the caravanserai from later additions and revealed its original architecture. This careful work allowed the authentic structure of the merchant building to be seen as it was originally designed.
