The National Museum complex consists of four pavilions arranged around a central garden, displaying archaeological artifacts, natural specimens, and ethnographic collections.
Founded in 1888 during the Austro-Hungarian period, the museum building expanded in 1913 following designs by architect Karel Pařík to house growing collections.
The museum preserves the Sarajevo Haggadah, a 14th-century Jewish manuscript that survived multiple conflicts and represents the cultural diversity of the region.
Visitors can explore three main departments - archaeology, ethnology, and natural history - from Tuesday to Friday between 10:00 and 19:00, weekends until 14:00.
The botanical garden contains medieval Christian stecci tombstones alongside Muslim burial markers, reflecting the multilayered heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
