The Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina maintains a collection of 400,000 items including documents, photographs, and artifacts from different historical periods.
Founded in November 1945, the museum changed its name from Museum of National Revolution to Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1993.
The museum presents exhibitions about Bosnia and Herzegovina from the arrival of Slavs through Ottoman rule, Austro-Hungarian period, and contemporary times.
Located in a purpose-built structure since 1963, the museum welcomes visitors daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM with wheelchair accessibility.
Two permanent exhibitions, Bosnia and Herzegovina through the centuries and Surrounded Sarajevo, document the evolution of the nation and wartime experiences.
