Late antique basilica in Cim, the archaeological site

This site preserves the remains of an early Christian basilica with a single nave, three apses, an entrance hall, and a baptistery arranged across different ground levels. The southern area retains original flooring, while excavation work has exposed the structure in the northern sections.

Construction took place during the 5th and 6th centuries AD, with the building serving as a religious and burial center through the late antique and medieval periods. This extended use demonstrates how important the location remained across many centuries.

The decoration patterns found here include grapevines, peacocks, and fish alongside crosses, showing how early Christians expressed their faith through visual art.

The location sits within Mostar and is best reached through the main accessible entrance area of the site. Visitors should be careful when walking across excavated sections, as some areas remain under study and the ground can be uneven.

A notable discovery is the special burial chamber located within the central apse area, where three significant individuals were laid to rest. This privileged tomb placement reveals how much these particular people were honored within the early Christian community.
