Novo Theatre, Dhaka, Planetarium in Tejgaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh
Novo Theatre is a planetarium in Tejgaon, a neighborhood of Dhaka, showing astronomical projections on a curved ceiling at a 120-degree angle. The dome measures 21 meters (69 feet) in diameter and holds 275 seats arranged in a semicircular space.
The building opened in September 2004 under the name Bhashani Novo Theatre, dedicated from the start to teaching astronomy and science. In 2010, the institution gained autonomous status through legislation, giving it more independence in operation and management.
Exhibits inside the building tell the story of the country's independence, with the famous March 7 speech presented through digital screens and interactive displays. Visitors walk through these presentations and see how national memory remains meaningful to people who come here.
The planetarium opens from Saturday through Tuesday and on Thursdays between 11 AM and 7 PM, while Friday hours start earlier at 10 AM. Shows run several times throughout the day, so visitors can usually find a seat without long waits.
The building houses a rare capsule simulator system that gives visitors the feeling of traveling through space, and a smart floor that responds to movement. In addition, inflatable portable domes are used for special shows outside the main hall, extending the reach of the programs.
