Founded in 1951 as East Bengal Ceramics Institute, the institution underwent name changes in 1960 and 1972 following Bangladesh's independence.

Students can pursue four-year diplomas in both Glass Engineering and Ceramic Engineering, with programs regulated by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.
The institution remains the sole specialized center in Bangladesh dedicated to glass and ceramics education since its establishment in 1951.
