The Bangladesh Institute of Glass and Ceramics is an educational and research facility located in Tejgaon within Dhaka's industrial district. The two-story structure contains modern laboratories, workshop spaces for hands-on work, and an auditorium for lectures.
The facility was established in 1951 as the East Bengal Ceramics Institute and received new names reflecting the country's political shifts. Name changes occurred in 1960 and 1972 as the nation reorganized itself.
The southern corner holds a memorial honoring those who died for the country, connecting the campus to national memory. This tribute reflects how the place weaves together learning and historical remembrance.
The campus sits in Dhaka's industrial area and is accessible by public transportation. Keep in mind that access to interior spaces may be limited since most facilities serve students during their studies.
This is the sole specialized training center in Bangladesh dedicated solely to teaching glass and ceramics techniques. This distinct role makes it a significant hub for craft and industrial skills throughout the country.
