SAARC Fountain

SAARC Fountain is a water feature at a major intersection in central Dhaka, built from steel and concrete construction. The structure sits where several main roads meet and is surrounded by shops and markets on all sides.

The monument was built in 1985 to mark the first summit meeting of a regional cooperation organization held in Dhaka. The design was meant to symbolize partnership among several countries in the region.

A local artist created this monument to express cooperation among South Asian nations through its design. Visitors passing through the area often pause to take photos or sit by the water, making it a natural gathering spot in the busy commercial zone.

The site sits at a heavily trafficked road crossing in the middle of a busy commercial zone. It is easy to reach on foot and offers a natural stopping point when navigating through the area.

Despite its role as a landmark, the fountain remains an everyday meeting point for local traders and shoppers who visit the wholesale market daily. The monument blends into the busy marketplace environment and is experienced more as a central hub within an active commercial district than as a formal memorial.
