Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Five-star hotel in Kawran Bazar, Bangladesh.
Pan Pacific Sonargaon is a large hotel in central Dhaka, located in the Kawran Bazar area and designed by Hawaiian architect Peter Hsi. The building sits on a spacious plot and offers dining venues, meeting rooms, and outdoor facilities including swimming pools.
Construction started in 1977 with funding from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, and the hotel opened in 1981. It was among the first modern hotels of its kind in Dhaka, built during a period of rapid urban growth in the city.
The interior design weaves in Bangladeshi craftsmanship and artistic traditions throughout its spaces. This approach creates a bridge between global hospitality standards and local visual identity.
The hotel sits close to an MRT station, making it straightforward to get around the city without a car. Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is roughly 15 minutes away via the Elevated Expressway, which is useful to know when planning arrival or departure.
The hotel has two outdoor pools side by side: a rectangular swimming pool and a separate semi-circular wading pool. On the same grounds, six different restaurants each serve a different type of food, which is rare for a single property in Dhaka.
