Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, Art education faculty in Shahbag, Bangladesh
The Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka occupies multiple buildings with separate areas for painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, and graphic design. The campus has modern computer labs and studio spaces where students practice their skills year-round in these various disciplines.
The institution began in 1948 as Dhaka Art School before becoming part of the University of Dhaka in 2008. This transition to university faculty status brought significant changes to how the school operated and grew.
The artworks created here blend traditional Bengali elements with modern techniques, a combination visible in daily student projects and displays. This fusion shapes how the place looks and what visitors encounter in the studios and exhibition areas.
Visit during the academic year when students are working in the studios and projects are on display to see the most activity. The different buildings are clustered fairly close together, making it easy to move between the various work areas.
Architect Muzharul Islam integrated existing trees into the campus design, creating a green environment within the buildings themselves. This thoughtful blend of nature and structure remains visible today and shapes how the grounds feel.
