Fatikchhari Upazila, Administrative district in Chattogram District, Bangladesh
Fatikchhari Upazila is an administrative subdivision in Chattogram District that covers several hundred square kilometers. The area is crossed by multiple rivers flowing southward and sits between the Sitakunda Hills and the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The area was established as a thana in 1918 during British colonial rule and later upgraded to upazila status within Bangladesh's modern administrative structure. This change marked its shift from a smaller administrative unit to a larger regional division.
The area is home to Bengali Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and indigenous groups including Tripura, Chakma, Marma, and Kheyang communities. This mix of people shapes the local way of life and traditions you can observe throughout the region.
The subdivision contains numerous markets, including Bibir Hat and Azadi Bazar, where you can find local products and everyday goods. When exploring, be prepared for local transportation methods and walking routes, as these are the main ways to move around the various areas.
The region is home to around 18 tea gardens and the Dantmara Rubber Garden, one of the largest rubber plantations in the area. These agricultural spaces shape the landscape and are crucial to the local economy.
