Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila, Upazila in Jhenaidah District, Bangladesh
Jhenaidah Sadar is an upazila in Jhenaidah District, in southwestern Bangladesh, serving as the administrative hub for the surrounding towns and villages. The main urban center, known as Jhenaidah Municipality, forms the commercial and civic core, with markets, offices, schools, and small workshops lining its streets.
The area was established as an administrative unit in the late 18th century, when a police station was set up to manage the region. It officially became an upazila in 1984, a change that strengthened local governance and the delivery of public services to surrounding villages.
In Jhenaidah Sadar, Muslim and Hindu communities live side by side, and their religious practices shape the daily rhythm of the place. During festivals like Eid or Durga Puja, streets fill with people in colorful clothes, and vendors sell special foods near mosques and temples alike.
The area is best explored from the town center of Jhenaidah, where markets, offices, and main roads come together. Buses and rickshaws are the most common ways to get around, and the local markets are most active during the daytime hours.
Near the town center stands the Naldanga Temple Complex, a group of temples dating back to the 17th century, some of which still partially survive today. Their presence shows that the area had a significant religious and social life long before it became an administrative unit.
