Pabna Zilla School, Pabna, Colonial high school in Pabna, Bangladesh
Pabna Zilla School is a government high school in the town of Pabna in northern Bangladesh, with separate buildings for classrooms, administration, and science. The campus also has a mosque and a playground within its grounds.
The school was founded in 1853 under the name Hardinge School, then renamed shortly after to reflect its regional role. It is one of the oldest schools in the area dating from the colonial period.
The school teaches using a Bengali-medium curriculum and encourages students through regular academic competitions that motivate their learning.
The school runs two shifts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, so visiting during class hours can be difficult. It is a good idea to check in advance whether access is possible outside of teaching time.
The Muslim Boarding Hall, opened in 1899 and funded by local Zamindars, is one of the oldest parts of the school still in use. It shows how wealthy landowners from the area helped support the school during its early years.
